Buckets of show announcements and venue changes and stuff...

Cure fans take heed...
With all apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment it may cause,
we have made a decision to move the September/October 2007 North
American Cure shows to April/May 2008.

The schedule as it stands only gives us a couple of weeks to finish our
new double album before we hit the road again, and we know this just
isn't enough time to complete the project to our genuine satisfaction.
We also want to create a new live show for North America, and
incorporate new songs... and we need time and focus to do this. So
although we can agree it is a great shame to move these dates - believe
us we have been looking forward to them more than anyone!
we honestly feel that in the bigger picture we are making the right
decision.

All tickets held for all 2007 North American Cure shows will be valid
for the re-scheduled 2008 shows, and of course anyone who seeks a refund
will be able to get one.

All refund/rescheduling details will be announced very soon.

Once again, our genuine apologies to anyone who is upset by this
announcement - please be encouraged by our promise:

The spring 2008 Cure shows will be even better than the fall 2007 ones
would have been!!!

See you all soon...
Love
Robert, Simon, Jason and Porl - The Cure 23/8/07

Rolling Stone calls Lifeline, "...an acoustic soul stunner...a thing of
beauty."
This is the way they used to do it.
At the end of a nine month European tour, Ben Harper & the Innocent
Criminals landed in a Paris recording studio and completed their new
album, Lifeline, in just seven days. The result: a soulful masterpiece
with beautifully direct lyrics, undeniable grooves and an effortless
energy that recalls the best works of Otis Redding, Bill Withers and
Beggars Banquet-era Rolling Stones. Yeah...it's that good.

Ranked 12th in MTV's "22 Greatest Voices in Music" survey, ahead of such
icons as David Bowie, Steven Tyler and Bruce Springsteen; Chris Cornell,
the voice who behind Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, has
been called "the single most dynamic rock and roll force produced by the
Grunge Revolution of the early '90s." But Cornell would have little to
sing without an equally powerful facility as a lyricist. Nine years
after the breakup of his band Soundgarden - through which he paved the
way for the Seattle grunge sound, Cornell has become an enduring musical
and cultural icon.

Cornell was recently in the studio with Grammy Award-winning British
super-producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones, Morrissey, Dave
Matthews Band) working on his latest solo effort, entitled Carry On.
This marks his 13th career album and was released in early Spring 2007
on Suretone/Interscope Records.

In addition, Cornell recently released the single "You Know My Name,"
the main title track for the current James Bond installment, CASINO
ROYALE. Written in collaboration with Bond composer David Arnold, the
song is gaining praise from critics and fans alike.

on Tuesday, October 2nd.

Ladies and gentlemen, The Aliens have landed. Armed with a bottomless
bag of psychedelically inclined rock and acid dipped electronics, The
Aliens bring a freedom of spirit and a certainty of intent that
immediately sets them out from the current crop of guitar slingers.
Inspired by Sergio Leone and Serge Gainsbourg, Brian Eno and Brian
Wilson, Larry David and Ol' Dirty Bastard, their songs in the key of
Fife reference the past whilst belonging resolutely to the future.

The Aliens are Gordon Anderson, John Maclean and Robin Jones, and
between them they have been responsible for some of the most enthralling
British music of the last decade. School friends Anderson and Maclean
met Jones at Edinburgh College of Art, and musical collaborations soon
followed. The Scottish trio were all founding members of The Beta Band,
under which moniker Maclean and Jones spent 8 years touring, recording,
DJing, making films and wearing jumpsuits with fluorescent piping.
Anderson co-wrote "Dry The Rain," the defining single which secured a
record deal for the band.

The Beta Band split in 2004. By 2006, The Aliens released Alienoid
Starmonica, a four song EP that was as intense as it was fleet-footed.
And finally, the spring of 2007 lead to the release of their
self-produced debut album, Astronomy For Dogs.

Don't miss The Aliens live at Richard's On Richards on Monday, October
1st.

VAN HALEN AND DAVID LEE ROTH ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

HISTORIC CONCERT TOUR MARKS FIRST OF ITS KIND

FOR VAN HALEN IN 22 YEARS

LOS ANGELES, CA -- August 13, 2007 Beginning this September, in
what promises to be the most exciting live tour this year, Van Halen
will embark on a national concert tour throughout the U.S. and Canada
with its original lead singer David Lee Roth for the first time in 22
years.

Considered by fans and media alike as one of the most highly anticipated
tours in rock and roll history, Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen and
drummer Alex Van Halen will perform with Eddie's son, Wolfgang who joins
the line-up as the band's bass player. Van Halen and Roth have not
performed or recorded together since 1984's classic multi-platinum album
"1984" and subsequent tour, making this tour truly a historic event.

25 dates in all were announced today for the tour which is slated for a
September 27th kick-off in Charlotte, North Carolina. Tickets for
select dates on the tour go on sale beginning on Saturday, August 18th
and are available on www.LiveNation.com <http://www.livenation.com/> .
A complete list of confirmed dates is attached. The Van Halen tour is
being produced by Live Nation. Individuals who have the Citi(r) /
AAdvantage(r) card, the official credit card of the tour, will be
offered access to purchase preferred seats to all U.S. shows.

Fans can enjoy the ultimate Van Halen experience including concert
pre-show parties, backstage access, premium seating and more. For
additional details go to www.iloveallaccess.com
<http://www.iloveallaccess.com/> .

Fans are encouraged to also check in at www.van-halen.com
<http://www.van-halen.com/> or www.davidleeroth.com
<http://www.davidleeroth.com/> for additional information.

Van Halen remains one of the most important and influential bands of all
time. Formed in Los Angeles in 1974, the band quickly won a loyal
hometown fan base with their electrifying live shows. From the moment
they released their self-titled 1978 debut album, Van Halen shook the
foundations of rock, thanks largely to Roth's peerless showmanship,
Eddie Van Halen's revolutionary guitar virtuosity and their songwriting
abilities. It changed rock music forever.

The band's first album proved one of the biggest selling rock debuts,
with key tracks like "Eruption," "Running with the Devil," "Jamie's
Cryin'," "You Really Got Me" and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" leading the
way. The next year, the band followed up with "Van Halen II," which
included the hit "Dance the Night Away."

Subsequent albums like "Women and Children First" (1980), "Fair Warning"
(1981) and "Diver Down" (1982), along with worldwide touring, solidified
the band's reputation for innovative and unparalleled live performances.
Classic Van Halen tracks from the early 80's include "Everybody Wants
Some," "Unchained", "And The Cradle Will Rock", "Beautiful Girls", "Mean
Street" and "Somebody Get Me A Doctor" just to name a few.

With their sixth album, released in, and titled "1984", Van Halen rose
to stratospheric heights. Recorded at Eddie Van Halen's 5150 Studios,
the multi-platinum smash yielded one of Van Halen's signature hits,
"Jump," which remained #1 on the Billboard charts for an astounding five
weeks straight. Other hits from the album include "Panama," "Hot For
Teacher" and "I'll Wait."

The band's record of achievement is hard to top. Presented with two
Diamond Award RIAA Certified Status' for their albums "Van Halen" and
"1984", Van Halen joins an elite short list of two time Diamond Award
honorees in the history of the music industry. The Diamond Award is
presented to an artist for album sales of 10 million or more units.
They are also in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most
#1 hits on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart than any other band in
history.

Inducted into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame in March of this year, Van
Halen has produced a treasured body of work that fans will admire for
decades to come.

An escalating drum roll opens Our Ill Wills, the sophomore album from Shout Out
Louds. And rightly so. It's been a few years since the release of their first
full-length record, the critically acclaimed Howl Howl Gaff Gaff. But the band's
been anything but lazy. These last few years have seen their passports fill up with
stamps and their photo albums with snap shots from all corners of the world. They've
done their own headline tours as well as being the support act of choice for bands
such as The Strokes, The Magic Numbers and Kings Of Leon. Being on the road means
you got plenty of time. To think. To drink. To reminisce the past. To play computer
games. To miss loved ones. To get lost in new towns. To misbehave and to get your
priorities in order. It's all there, on Our Ill Wills. Well, maybe not the computer
games so much.

Swedish indie pop hopefuls Shout Out Louds were formed in Stockholm by childhood
friends Adam (vocals), Ted (bass), and Carl (guitars) in 2001. Soon after they were
joined by Eric (drums) and Bebban (vocals, keys) and began writing songs. The first
three they wrote formed the basis of their first demo tape. The songs caught the ear
of Filip Wilén, the owner of Sweden's Bud Fox Recordings, and he quickly signed
them. The group spent 2002 writing more songs and recorded four of them for a debut
EP, 2003's 100. The group's high-energy, ultra-melodic sound was in place from the
very beginning. The band toured around Sweden and Scandinavia following its release
and followed up the EP with two singles, "Hurry Up Let's Go" and "Shut Your Eyes."
In October of 2003 the group released its first album, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff, which
produced the singles "Please Please Please" and "Very Loud/Wish I Was Dead", to
great acclaim in Sweden.

Ok, so let's get this straight. Five guys originally from New Orleans,
in four different bands, got together many moons ago and started a
little side project called Down. Featuring vocalist Phil Anselmo from
Pantera, drummer Jimmy Bower from Crowbar, and guitarist Pepper Keenan
from Corrosion of Conformity, it seemed innocent enough, just a couple
of freaks who were into bands which were into Sabbath -- before it was
cool to be into Sabbath. They would jam and blow their heads off in this
little garage, and then something started to happen. They weren't just
blowing off steam and "Sabb-ing out"; they were coming up with some
serious stuff.

Six years later, this Down swamp creature they created will not kick the
ol' bucket. Over the last six years, the members of Down have been
constantly asked by press and fans alike, from Christchurch, New Zealand
to Kansas City, "What's up with Down?" It seems to have taken on a life
of its own, purely supported by freaks who kept listening to it and
asking for it. Very little radio, even less promotion, and still even
fewer live shows. It spread like some kind of yellow fever to basically
become a staple heavy metal record.

The album Nola sold close to half a million copies worldwide; not bad
for a band that only played thirteen shows and can't even remember the
color of their own tour bus. They eventually decided that Down was not
the kind of band that can be confined to a studio. Lo and behold, they
came up with a genius idea to isolate themselves in a barn (later to be
christened "Nodferatu's Lair") in an undisclosed swamp somewhere in
South Louisiana. Slept upstairs and rocked downstairs. Shipped in enough
gear to get their point across (loudly), and got two Yankees with their
heads half screwed on (half more than the band's) to turn the knobs.

One of the coolest things about Down is the fact that they don't have
any preconceived notions about what is to come. When Down is in the
"Lair" - candles lit, ice chest packed, puffin' and passing, all fired
up - they have no clue what's going to happen, which is a beautiful
thing. This freedom allows them to write anything from mellow material
like "Where I'm Going", to slammers like "The Seed". Wherever their
heads are at, good or bad, up or down, this is what makes Down tick.

Don't miss Down at the Commodore Ballroom on Thursday, October 4th,
2007.

Irish/English duo VNV Nation continue to leap from strength to strength,
emerging as a powerhouse in the alternative rock electronic and
industrial scenes. Their unique blend of contemporary electronic styles,
industrial, rock and dance element, thematic lyrics and inspiring,
emotive vocals ranges from hard-hitting electronic beats to haunting
ballads and symphonic orchestrations. VNV Nation have earned incredible
acclaim for their energetic live shows and gained a fanatical worldwide

high-impact array of tone and sound - from the raw, punch of "Chrome",
the soulful sounds of "Homeward" and "Endless Skies", to the uplifting,
indie-electronic anthem "Perpetual".

In April 2007, the band will released their latest album Judgement which
is their most powerful and unique release to date. Having already broken
the boundaries on Matter and Form, VNV Nation take their music to new
heights, creating a sound that is a collision of future and past, ever
present insight, energy and emotion.

The letters VNV stand "Victory not Vengeance". The meaning behind this
stylised motto is that one should strive to achieve, not sit in bitter
regret.

The band have embarked on a world tour that hits Vancouver's Plaza Club
on September 26th.

Vancouver almost welcomes The Switches

Well, it could have been a warmer reception for recent Universal signing The Switches' Vancouver show last night. The British boys and their scant merch table were on hand for what I can only surmise must have been more of a media showcase than anything. We told you about the show somewhere on this here blog, but the Thursday night Vancouverites were few and far between. Those who were there, however, leaked slowly ever-closer to the stage as the set wore on, getting more into the dancing as it went. The band took a couple tunes to hit their stride, but by the end, had put forth some chipper tunes and a few leaps and swivels for good measure. They were smartly dressed as any good British rock boys should be, and played a stunningly-short set ... another fact leading me to think this was more of a showcase than anything else. No encore in sight either. I think this collective has a lot of potential to be the Next Big iPod Band or whatever contemporary hip music culture term you prefer. Humble beginnings, but they have the style and pounce that might see them sneaking up the popularity ladder within a year or so. Keep an eye out.

**RESERVED SEATING**

One of the most outspoken, creative singer/songwriters of our time
returns with her ninth studio album and she's brought company. American
Doll Posse features Tori Amos in a way we've never heard her: as five
distinct characters named Isabel, Clyde, Pip, Santa & Tori, who combine
to make a complete woman. After centuries of being dismembered,
literally and figuratively, by the ruling patriarchy the feminine
essence has reassembled to take back the power. In addition to Amos, the
quartet creates a compelling portrait of the role of women today
expressed through one of Amos's most wide ranging albums, both
thematically and musically.

Tori Amos had a jump on the world of music from the very beginning. By
age three, she was already demonstrating a startling aptitude for the
piano; by four she was composing musical scores; and at six she became
the youngest student ever to attend the prestigious Peabody Conservatory
in Baltimore. Her first album, Little Earthquakes, was released in early
1992. Featuring the poignant first single "Silent All These Years," the
compelling ballads "Crucify" and "Winter," plus the teasing,
cabaret-like "Leather," her debut sold two million copies and placed
Amos firmly on the musical map. It is an album that tackles a number of
strong subjects, especially on the startling "Me and a Gun," an a
cappella tale of her escape from a would-be rapist. With her more ornate
platinum follow-up, Under The Pink, Amos continued to embrace songs
about the female experience: "God" questions male authority; "Cornflake
Girl" explores what happens when one woman betrays another. In 1996,
Boys for Pele debuted at #2 and quickly went platinum despite its
inaccessibility for radio.

Don't miss Tori Amos with guest at the Orpheum Theatre on December 3rd.

**GENERAL ADMISSION / ALL AGES**

It's hard to think of a more definitive statement from a band than a
self-titled album. Often times it's a group's debut, setting the
blueprint for years to come. But when it's a move enacted by a band
that's already built a following on the road and garnered critical
acclaim with a handful of albums? Now that is a bold, bare-knuckled
declaration.

After being nominated for New Group of the Year at the 2006 Juno Awards
and winning Favorite Rock Artist/Group of the Year at the 2006
Independent Music Awards, the guys knew that their next album would have
to be great!

Boys Night Out's eponymous new album demands to be heard, now. The
greatest live band from the Great White North has hit their stride,
throwing progressive guitar work in the mix with dark pop and heavy but
loose rock n' roll. While countless new bands rely on tired, rehashed
images to sell themselves to kids, Boys Night Out recognize the need for
real bands to step forth from the shadows and deliver the goods.

Describing any concept, art work or song as a ten second epic is an
oxymoron, and makes one ask exactly what the hell a ten second epic is?
Patrick Birtles, drummer for Canada's Ten Second Epic has a quick and
straightforward answer, "You don't need to wait years for something epic
to happen in your life, you can make it happen in the next 10 seconds.
You can start to make anything you want to happen right now".

Ten Second Epic want to give fans something different with Count
Yourself In to add to their musical repertoire but not too different,
just different enough to make it interesting enough to check out again
and again, "We hope people who listen to this record will want to go
back and notice the subtleties because the music makes them curious
enough to do so. We want to leave question marks... and answers".

Don't miss Boys Night Out and Ten Second Epic with Sick City and Living
With Lions for an all ages show at the Plaza Club on September 23, 2007.

Like Bright Eyes
or Five
for Fighting
, the
Spill Canvas began as the pseudonym for a solo singer and songwriter,
but has since transformed into a traditional band. Sioux Falls, SD,
native Nick Thomas
played
in a variety of local punk bands in his early teens before transforming
himself into a solo acoustic emo act along the lines of Dashboard
Confessional
. At the
age of 19, Thomas
signed
with the indie label One Eleven Records and recorded Sunsets and Car
Crashes
almost entirely on his own, save for a few guest musicians. Following
the album's April 2004 release, Thomas
put
together a full-time touring lineup of the Spill Canvas, with himself on
vocals, guitar, and keyboards, Dan Ludeman
on
guitar, Scott McGuire
on bass,
and Joe Beck
on
drums. The first full-band lineup album by the Spill Canvas, One Fell
Swoop ,
was released in August 2005.

Crafting a sound halfway between alternative rock and confessional
singer/songwriter pop, the Utah-based band Meg & Dia began as a way for
Meg and
Dia Frampton
to play
music together. The Frampton sisters' dad was a DJ and the girls were
exposed to a wide range of music while they were growing up, and were
encouraged to express themselves through music: Dia
sang at
county fairs, while Meg
learned
guitar by playing along with the radio.

As well as recording, Meg & Dia spent 2006 touring, including a stint on
the Warped Tour's MySpace stage that summer. Their first Doghouse
release, the What Is It? A Fender Bender
EP, also
arrived that summer, with the full-length Something Real
coming
out shortly after. That fall, Chan
left the
band amicably, but the sisters soon found themselves talking with Warner
Bros, and soon had signed to the major label.

Don't miss The Spill Canvas with special guests Meg & Dia, playradio!
and Idiot Pilotat the Croatian Cultural Centre on Thursday, October 18,
2007.

NICK LOWE

**GENERAL ADMISSION**

TICKETS ALSO AVAILABLE AT ZULU & HIGHLIFE

From his pub-rock beginnings to his role as producer (Elvis Costello),
band member (Rockpile) and, perhaps most importantly, solo artist, Nick
Lowe has accumulated an amazing body of work. What is even more
incredible is that his latest album, At My Age, is his 13th solo studio
record-and is as good as even career highs like Pure Pop for Now People
and Labour of Lust (which gave the world the immortal "Cruel to Be
Kind").

Lowe started out in the mid-60s with the British outfit Brinsley
Schwartz, and began to find his voice as a writer with songs like
"(What's So Funny) 'Bout Peace Love and Understanding" (later covered,
of course, by Costello on the Lowe-produced Armed Forces record). In the
mid-'70s he began playing with Rockpile along with guitarist Dave
Edmonds before signing with punk upstart Stiff, releasing three classic
pop albums, and becoming the label's house producer for acts like Elvis
Costello. On At My Age, as with previous albums, listeners can hear how
Lowe has been informed by the era he grew up in, which is to say that on
every record he captures the warmth, com-passion and humour, as well as
the melodic ingenuity, of some of the best pop songwriters of all time.
Indeed, it's not too much of a stretch to mention Nick's name in the
company of talents like Paul McCartney and Ray Davies.
