Throughout his most accomplished work to date, Broken (and other rogue
states), Luke Doucet masterfully effects wonder in the familiar and
familiarizes the foreign. Coming together with his band like a zipper
closing, he features just as many artists as there are teeth in a Levi's fly.
With three Veal albums under his belt (Hot Loser, 1996; Tilt O'Whirl, 1999;
Embattled Hearts, 2003), a smash solo debut (Aloha, Manitoba, 2001), a live
album (Outlaws, 2004), and an armful of notable producer credits including
two albums each by NQ Arbuckle and Melissa McLelland, Luke Doucet indelibly
brings his sensibilities to all projects as a visionary and the pioneer of a
new movement in music. Spearheading a modern genre, country verité is Luke's
rogue angel. Fallen from tradition he walks in time, on earth, from the heart
in technicolour. Broken (and other rogue states) is Luke Doucet's most
revolutionary work yet. It is the beginning of a new era for artists and fans
everywhere.
Don't miss Luke Doucet live with special guest Melissa McClelland at the

THE RAVEONETTESWITH SPECIAL GUESTS MONDAY, OCTOBER 29THRICHARD'S ON RICHARDS - VANCOUVER, BCDOORS 8:00PM SHOW 9:00PM TICKETS ON SALE FRIDAY, JULY 27th @ 10:00AMTickets available at all Ticketmaster outlets or Charge By Phone 604-280-4444 or Order online at www.ticketmaster.ca Tickets (incl. GST) $15.00 (plus service charges) **GENERAL ADMISSION**Tickets also at Zulu and Scratch "Wagner and Foo sing together in a compressed, modal boy-girl blend that, against hurricane feedback and booming trebled bass guitar, sounds like theJesus and Mary Chain with Blondie's Debbie Harry at the mike. Or the Ramonesfronted by a Gregorian Shangri-Las." -ROLLING STONE Sometimes it takes an outsider's perspective to put a new spin on somethingwe take for granted. That's the case with The Raveonettes, a Danish duo whotake familiar elements from the last 40-plus years of rock 'n' roll, from theShangri-las and Buddy Holly to the Velvet Underground and the Jesus and MaryChain, and turn them into something shiny and new. Self-confident and ambitious, the Raveonettes entered the garage rock race ofthe new millennium with a stylish, brassy sound not heard since Sonic Youth 's Daydream
Nation . Sune
Rose Wagner
(guitar, vocals) and Sharin Foo
(bass,
vocals) hail from Copenhagen and formed the Raveonettes out of dismay for
their homeland's state of music.
The Raveonettes had a set of rules when it came to creating material. These
rules consisted of making an album entirely in Bb minor, surrounded by only
three chords, and each song had to be less than three minutes long. Ride
cymbals were not allowed, either. What came about was a fuzzy, dark,
cinematic set of songs collected for the Raveonettes' debut album. Whip It On
, which was
written on a four-track and drum machine, fused classic garage rumblings with
frenzied electronic bits. Whip It On
appeared on
Crunchy Frog in Europe in summer 2002. In July, the Raveonettes waltzed into
N.Y.C.'s CBGB for an American introduction. Producer Richard Gottehrer
(Blondie
, Joan
Armatrading ,
the Go-Go's )
caught the show and signed on to work on the band's first full-length album.
A deal with Columbia followed before the year's end, posing the Raveonettes
for some quality buzz in the years to come.
Don't miss The Raveonettes at Richard's on Richards on Monday, October 29th.
DELERIUMWITH SPECIAL GUESTS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12THCOMMODORE BALLROOM - VANCOUVER, BCDOORS 8:00PM SHOW 9:30PM TICKETS ON SALE FRIDAY, JULY 27th @ 10:00AMTickets available at all Ticketmaster outlets or Charge By Phone 604-280-4444 or Order online at www.ticketmaster.ca Tickets (incl. GST) $25.00 (plus FMF and service charges) **GENERAL ADMISSION**Tickets also at Zulu and HighlifeDelerium has traditionally been a two-person project, but the only constantmember throughout its history has been Bill Leeb . Leeb was a guest musician and
early supporter of industrial dance pioneers Skinny Puppy
, but after he left in 1986, he
went on to create his own project, Front Line Assembly
, with collaborator
Michael Balch
.
Later, the two worked on the side project Delerium and released their first
album, Faces, Forms, & Illusions. After Balch left both Front Line Assembly
and Delerium, Leeb worked with Rhys Fulber
, and the two released several
albums under the Delerium moniker; these years saw a gradual stylistic change
from darker ambient to a more danceable sound. After the release of Karma,
Fulber left to pursue other interests, and Leeb teamed up with producer Chris
Peterson to release Poem.
2003, however, saw the reunion of Leeb and Fulber for the release of Chimera,
followed by Nuages du Monde in 2006.
In contrast to Leeb and collaborators' other projects, Delerium has included
several guest vocalists since the release of Semantic Spaces. These have
included mostly women, such as Kristy Thirsk
, Sarah McLachlan
, Leigh Nash
(of Sixpence None the Richer
), Lisa Gerrard
(sampled only), Jaël
(of Swiss band Lunik
), Camille Henderson
, Nerina Pallot
, Emily Haines
(of Metric
), Jacqui Hunt
(of
Single Gun Theory ) and
Isabel Bayrakdarian . Only
two males, other than Leeb himself, have contributed vocals to a Delerium
album: Matthew Sweet
("Daylight", on Poem) and Greg Froese ("Apparition", on Nuages du Monde); in
addition, the noted griot Baaba Maal
was sampled ("Awakenings, on
"Spiritual Archives").
The Mediæval Bæbes
provided the vocal track for, and starred in the video of, Aria; the vocals
are an adapted version of the vocals from "All Turns to Yesterday" on the
Bæbes' Worldes Blysse album. They are also featured on two tracks from
Delerium's 2006 album, Nuages du Monde.
Delerium plays their first show since 2003 at Vancouver's legendary Commodore
Ballroom.

After a sold out show at Richard's on Richards in June, Brandi Carlile makes
a triumphant return to Vancouver's most beautiful venue, the Commodore
Ballroom.
Shortly after the release of her critically-acclaimed self-titled Red Ink
debut (Rolling Stone named her one of the magazine's "10 Artists To Watch in
2005") -- Carlile left her home in Seattle and set out with twin brothers Tim
(guitar) and Phil (bass) Hanseroth, with whom she'd worked on her earliest
recordings and independent regional tours. The tightly knit trio, which forms
the core of her band today, spent the better part of two years on the road.
By the end of 2006, Brandi Carlile had embarked on several headlining tours
and supported a variety of artists including Ray LaMontagne, The Fray, Chris
Isaak, Tori Amos, and Shawn Colvin. The sound and songs of The Story first
formed during the rigors of touring as Brandi began working the new songs
into the band's repertoire, road-testing and refining the material under the
spotlights, giving each performance its own character.
On her new album, The Story, Brandi Carlile opens up her heart, soul, and
psyche in a series of memorable songs that invite you into her world. To her
growing community of fans, it's Carlile's revelatory imagery, stark emotive
vocals and finely-detailed songs which provide the keys to who she is, where
she's been, and where's she's going. Driven by Carlile's dynamic vocals, the
album's 13 tracks pulse with a raw and road-worthy intensity that is much
closer to her live concert sound than her self-titled debut album. "The new
songs may surprise people who only know us through the first album," Brandi
says. "If you've seen us play, you'll realize this is the direction we've
been heading in the whole time."
Don't miss Brandi Carlile with special guests A Fine Frenzy at the Commodore
Ballroom on Saturday, October 27, 2007.
SMASHING PUMPKINSWITH SPECIAL GUESTS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24THP.N.E. FORUM - VANCOUVER, BC TICKETS ON SALE FRIDAY, JULY 13TH @ 10:00AMTickets available at all Ticketmaster outlets or Charge By Phone 604-280-4444 or Order online at www.ticketmaster.ca Tickets (incl. GST) $55.00 (plus FMF and service charges) **GENERAL ADMISSION** With their new album Zeitgeist set for a July 10th release, The SmashingPumpkins have announced a full North American tour. Kicking off with a pairof festival performances (September 8 in Montreal and September 9 inToronto), the trek will take the band to theatres and amphitheatres acrossthe continent. The fall tour--the band's first full-scale North American toursince 2000--is highlighted by stops in such cities as Boston and Philadelphiawhere the group will perform multiple nights, including eleven nights at TheFilmore in San Francisco. Zeitgeist-the sixth Smashing Pumpkins album and first since 2000--doesn'tjust capture the spirit of our times, as the title might suggest. Even moreimpressively, Zeitgeist is a heartfelt, ambitious and deeply felt piece ofwork that vividly recaptures the spirit of this great and influential rockband. The release of Zeitgeist represents a powerful rebirth andreaffirmation of the Smashing Pumpkins by two of its key members, mainsinger-songwriter and guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. This second coming of the Pumpkins is also one of those rare examples ofactual truth in 21st Century Advertising. Two years ago -- on the releasedate of his first solo album -- Corgan made headlines around the alternativerock universe by taking out ads in his hometown papers the Chicago Tribuneand the Chicago Sun-Times, an open letter publicly declaring his desire andintention to try "renewing and reviving" the Smashing Pumpkins. "I want myband back," he wrote, "and my songs, and my dreams."More than two years later -- much of it spent working closely together firstin Scottsdale, Arizona and later in Los Angeles -- Corgan and Chamberlin havemanaged to make good and then some on every line of Corgan's declaration ofnon-independence. Right from the thrilling yet apocalyptic opening notes of"Doomsday Clock" to the final resounding chords of "Pomp And Circumstances,"Zeitgeist is quite clearly the sound of a rock group that has beenemphatically renewed and revived and is now ready to embrace and further itsmusical legacy.Formed in Chicago in 1988, The Smashing Pumpkins released Gish, theirinfluential (and platinum) debut in 1991, which was followed by more platinumand multi-platinum albums including the nine-times platinum Mellon Collie AndThe Infinite Sadness and the four-times platinum Siamese Dream. The pivotalgroup's many hits include "Disarm," "Today," "Cherub Rock," "1979," "Tonight,Tonight" and "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" -- songs that defined thealternative music era and continue to resonate on modern rock radio, influencing a whole new generation. Corgan and Chamberlin are now on point to bring the band to life on the road.Their May 22nd show in Paris was the first Smashing Pumpkins show sinceDecember 2, 2000. The Smashing Pumpkins are back with a new album, Zeitgeist. Don't miss yourchance to see them on Monday, September 24th at the P.N.E. Forum.

On Best Friends inLove, Bang Lime's debut, drummer Joules Scott-Key and vocalist/guitaristJoshua Winstead have come up with an album's worth of sneering, sinewy rocksongs. On danceable, rock-oriented tracks like "The Death of Death","Equator", and "Free White and 21", which made it onto the Toronto Star'sAnti-Hit list, the Oakland-based duo show they've learned a lot aboutsongwriting hooks and captivating moods in their years setting the pace forMetric. Bang Lime is the culmination of a collaboration that began when Joules andJosh met in 1991 at the University of North Texas. A decade later the musicalsoulmates hooked up with Emily Haines and James Shaw to form Metric, a bandwhich has released two wildly successful albums, Old World Underground, WhereAre You Now? and Live it Out, and generated sold-out tours. A third Metricalbum, with Joules and Josh back in their usual roles, is expected to startrecording sometime next year. Combining the best that punk, rock, alt-country and folk have to offer with
distinct vocals and poetic lyrics, The Weakerthans music has been described
as rich in detailed craftsmanship, with plenty of unsettling textures, daring
experiments and recurring lyrical and melodic imagery (Toronto Sun). The
band's forthcoming album will be no different. Assuming the reigns as
producer again, Ian Blurton is working with the band to refine the assortment
of songs for the new album.
Canadian rockers, The Weakerthans have returned to the studio to record their
fourth album, which will debut this fall from Anti-/Epitaph Records. For the
group's latest effort they've sought out the quiet, tranquil surroundings of
Winnipeg, Canada where they will spend the next several weeks recording
before heading to Toronto to finish the record. Surrounded by
slaughterhouses, industrial sites and sub-degree temperatures, The
Weakerthans will hash out over five years worth of material they have written
for the follow-up to 2003's critically acclaimed album, Reconstruction Site,
which has been hailed as a witty and intelligent collection of indie power
pop (Performing Songwriter).
Drawing on their inspirations from art and culture as well as their diverse
musical pasts, Canada's bona-fide rock and roll poet laureates (Playboy.com)
continue to produce thought provoking music that lives and breathes

But the controversial radio host had nothing on Henry Rollins. Rollins, of course, got his start as the lead singer of one of the mostseminal American punk bands of all time, Black Flag. But music is only one ofhis passions. While the super-fit, ultra-buff frontman has pursued a careerin rock with the Rollins Band, he has also become one of the most in-demandspoken word performers of the day. Cantankerous, controversial, andout-spoken, Rollins is a raconteur of the first order, one who is able tocapture and hold the attention of thousands with his stories, anecdotes, andriffs. Recently, he has been using his talents overseas to entertain thetroops, while his latest spoken word DVD is Henry Rollins: Uncut from NYC. An actor, author, TV and radio personality, as well as a human rightsactivist, Rollins is truly the punk rock king of all media. Underground parties, basement shows, outlaw festivals, the odd tour opening for Yeah Yeah Yeah'sand Be Your Own Pet, plus three classic albums, countless 7"s, a couple DVDs,and their own seminal garage rock label Die Slaughterhaus cemented theirreputation. They're now 22 years old, grizzled veterans of the underground, and legends in the scene. Now's when they explode. Their unpredictable live show has turned them intothe most notorious band on the road-- three singers singing lead on almostevery song, flying blood, group kissing, sudden nudity, fireworks explosions, and pissing into their mouths and onto the audience are just some of thetricks up their sleeve. Their latest release Los Valientes del Mundo Nuevoperfectly captures the excitement and chaos of their live show whileshowcasing all of their greatest hits. It's the perfect prize for fans andthe ultimate introduction for beginners.Playing self-coined "flower punk" in the vein of Nuggets-faves The Seeds andThe 13th Floor Elevators, live or on record it's hard to hide the fun theseboys have and impossible to describe how uninhibited audiences get at theirshows. We've watched him acceptthree Juno Awards, four MuchMusic Awards, six Canadian Urban Music Awards, aSource Award, garner a Grammy nomination, perform hit singles and reachplatinum-plus status with 'Joyful Rebellion' and the '?Publicity Stunt?' DVD.And while these accomplishments brought k-os great pride, he hopes that withhis latest album ATLANTIS - Hymns for Disco, people can focus on the musicrather than the accolades. This observation is at the musical heart of his third album, ATLANTIS - Hymnsfor Disco. Here, k-os challenged himself by creating a sonic landscape thatshows no boundaries and crosses many musical styles, sounds and generations. And while it was certainly not his intention, he had no choice but to makehis most personal and revealing album yet."To use your voice in the world is the greatest responsibility of an artist,"says k-os. "As an expressionist, I get to cleanse my emotions and thoughtsthrough music so that they don't fester and become toxic. When an artistexpresses their truth honestly and with a pure heart, they can end upspeaking for a myriad of people. From a very specific experience can come ageneral understanding and healing."On his two previous albums, Exit and Joyful Rebellion, k-os gave his insighton the current and future state of hip-hop and many timely issues frompolitics and fame to humanity. Now, on ATLANTIS - Hymns for Disco, instead ofholding up a mirror to the world and hiding behind it, he has turned themirror onto himself. He is inviting listeners to experience someone who's inthe process of accepting all points of his character and to hear about themost private and vulnerable parts of his life, which include tales ofself-discovery, love and heartbreak. Together, Slash, MattSorum, Duff McKagan, Scott Weiland, and Dave Kushner make up one of the mostexciting recording and touring combos of the day. Contraband, the group's 2004 debut, entered the Billboard charts at #1.Britain, Australia, and Canada also fell under the Velvet Revolver spell, assingles like "Slither" and "Fall to Pieces" (both of which went to #1 on theU.S. mainstream rock charts) and "Dirty Little Thing" continued to stormairwaves worldwide. Along with the chart success, the group's rigoroustouring helped sell two million copies of Contraband. Preceded by the hit"She Builds Quick Machines", Libertad, the band's follow-up, entered theBillboard 200 at #5. With the new record comes the Re-Evolution Tour, whichpromises to give rock fans what they want-sizzling hot, honest rock 'n' rollplayed with precision and passion. Alice in Chains became one of the most famous names in grunge with its debutFacelift. The 1990 album epitomized the dark, moody sound which the Seattlegroup became famous for, and wich captured the imaginations of millions oflisteners. Subsequent records such as Dirt and the #1 EP Jar of Flies keptAlice in Chains at the forefront of the hard rock scene. Following the band's1995 self-titled release and tour, however, Chains members went off indifferent directions. It wasn't until after the untimely death of singerLayne Staley in 2002 that the remaining members considered getting togetherto play Alice in Chains material. With William Duvall joining them on vocals, the band played a series of low-key club dates. Now, as part of VelvetRevolver's Re-Evolution Tour, Alice in Chains is ready to take back itsrightful title as one of North America's premiere hard rock acts. For fans that have grown up with the artist behind such hits as "Luka" (a # 3smash from her worldwide 1987 hit album Solitude Standing that earned herthree Grammy nominations), the disc is a revealing look into Vega's evolutionas songwriter and recording artist. For newcomers, it affords an opportunityto discover a unique voice that has, much like fellow die-hard New Yorker LouReed's, been shaped by keenly observing urban life. Vega has always been an adventurous artist, stretching the boundaries of thesinger-songwriter format. When British producers DNA famously remixed her"Tom's Diner", giving the original a cappella tune an ongoing life as asought-after sample, they were simply responding to something Vega herselfhad done, adding to the rhythm already planted in the song's melody by theartist. Similarly, German programmer Karlheinz Brandenburg, the key developerof the MP3, found Vega's voice to be the perfect template when he began towork on the audio compression that would revolutionize music distribution, earning her the nickname "The Mother of the MP3." Last year Vega herselfventured into the Internet world by becoming the first major recording artistto perform live in avatar form within the virtual world Second Life. If you want to hit the open road this late-summer, this might be a place to aim for. Portland's putting on a pretty sweet music festival again this year - check out the info!WILLAMETTE WEEK’S MUSICFEST NW ANNOUNCES 2007 FESTIVAL LINE-UP
Portland, OR (July 11, 2007) Willamette Week’s Musicfest NW announces this year’s
festival line-up which will be held at various clubs around the Portland, OR
metropolitan area on September 6, 7, 8 & 9, 2007. Wristbands for the 4 day event
are on sale now. Please visit http://musicfestnw.com/ for details on performers and
where to purchase passes.
MFNW continues its tradition of supporting diverse genres that will appeal to every
music fan. Confirmed to play are national acts: Spoon, Clipse, Aesop Rock, Brian
Jonestown Massacre, Girl Talk, Roky Erickson & The Explosives, along with Portland’s
own The Thermals, Viva Voce, The Shaky Hands and YACHT (see below for the current
2007 list).
On the heels of the most successful MFNW to date, 2007 launches with nothing but the
hope for an even bigger and better festival. MFNW's ultimate aim is to provide
Portland with a unique and special musical experience that honors the talent of the
Northwest while giving back to the local kid-focused music programs. MFNW will once
again benefit The Oregon Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame & The Rock N' Roll Camp for Girls
for the second year in a row.
Seattle’s KEXP radio will broadcast live from Portland at The Doug Fir Lounge
September 6-8 during MFNW, with live performances from artists playing the festival.
Listener-powered and community supported, KEXP not only serves Seattle but also has
a large loyal listener base in Portland and around the world who tune into
WWW.KEXP.ORG through online streaming.
Last year, MFNW 2006 national talent roster boasted acts such as The Melvins, The
Silver Jews, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Little Brother, Jeremy Enigk, and The Black
Keys, along with a strong local showing with The Lifesavas, Stephen Malkmus, The
Dandy Warhols, Helio Sequence, Viva Voce, and so many more. MFNW also saw a double
in attendance last year and brought in more community partnerships than ever before.
The first four years of the annual September festival have unquestionably met that
goal, as MFNW has become synonymous with the region's best music, while experiencing
25-30% growth in attendance in years past, with a 100% growth this last year.
How MFNW came to be Portland's biggest music festival began with the departure of
the North By Northwest music festival (NXNW), in 2000. Willamette Week, Portland's
alternative weekly and longtime co-producer of NXNW, teamed up with members of the
local and regional music scene to create a new music festival in 2001: MFNW. The
goal was to create a festival, made by and for the Northwest music community that
would be able to showcase the talent that lives here in Portland.

The Cure, one of the most revered British bands of the past quarter-century,
have unveiled their plans for a North American headlining tour this fall
kicking off September 13th in Tampa, Florida. Tickets for their Vancouver
date go on sale Friday, June 6th at 10:00am.
The band gear up for their trip to the North America as they put the final
touches to their 13th studio record and first album of new music since 2004's
self titled release The Cure. The new album, as yet untitled, has been
recorded in the U.K. with Robert Smith producing, and will be released on
Suretone/Geffen Records this fall.
Led as always by lead singer/guitarist Robert Smith, The Cure line-up
comprises longtime members bass player Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper
and, back in the band for a third time, guitarist Porl Thompson.
The Cure first formed in southern England in 1976 as Easy Cure. In 1978 the
'Easy' was dropped, and The Cure was signed to the Fiction label. In May 1979
their debut album Three Imaginary Boys was released to great acclaim.
Other landmark Cure albums include Pornography (1982), The Head on the Door
(1985), Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (1987), Disintegration (1989), Wish (1992),
Wild Mood Swings (1996), the Grammy-nominated Bloodflowers (2000) and their
last full length release, the self-titled set The Cure (2004). This past
year saw the Suretone/Geffen release of Festival 2005, an award winning 5.1
DVD featuring 30 songs, shot by fans, band members and professionals during
the summer of 2005's European festival run.

Ladies and gentlemen... the Flaming Lips. From the unlikely birthplace of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, comes one of the most psychedelic rock bands to ever
win a Grammy Award. For over 20 years the fabulously weird and eclectic
Flaming Lips, led by impresario/vocalist/madman Wayne Coyne, have been
blowing away audiences and audio-heads alike with tripped-out sounds,
impressionistic lyrics and bubblegum pop melodies.
Early albums like Oh My Gawd... It's the Flaming Lips, Telepathic Surgery and
Transmissions from the Satellite Heart gave the band a toehold in the
burgeoning indie-rock scene of the late '80s and early '90s. As mainstream
media embraced alternative rock sounds, the Lips benefited-both Beverley
Hills 90210 and Beavis and Butthead featured the group's 1993 song "She Don't
Use Jelly". Always theatrical, with its newfound popularity the group found
itself with enough resources to start putting on the shows the members had
always dreamed about. Subsequent tours saw the outfit utilizing every-thing
from Christmas lights to headphones for audience members to animal costumes.
Despite the rapid growth of their audience, the Lips never wavered from their
commitment to making the most outlandish yet tuneful music possible,
something that has continued on albums like The Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi
Battles the Pink Robots and its most recent, At War with the Mystics. Now the
group is heading back out on tour, this time for the release of its first
ever live DVD, the spectacular concert film U.F.O.'s At the Zoo: The
Legendary Concert in Oklahoma City.

Hospital Music is Matt Good's first record of new material since 2004's White
Light Rock and Roll Review, and is preceded by the awesomely catchy single
"Born Losers". Besides 13 new tunes, the record finds the Vancouver-based
singer-songwriter tackling two very disparate covers-the Dead Kennedys'
politically charged punk rock anthem "Moon Over Marin" and Daniel Johnston's
tender, optimistic rumination "True Love Will Find You in the End."
Matt Good's third solo album (Avalanche, in 2002, was his first) comes after
his hugely successful term fronting the Matthew Good Band, one of Canada's
most successful alternative rock acts. The group's hard-edged, passionate
sound on Last of the Ghetto Astronauts, Underdogs and Beautiful Midnight
(which took home two Juno Awards) and The Audio of Being won the adoration of
college-age music fans and music industry vets across the country. Some of
the MGB's best-known songs include "Everything is Automatic", "Apparitions",
and "Hello Time Bomb." Never afraid to speak his mind, Matt remains a
politically outspoken artist.
Don't miss Matt Good play an acoustic solo set on Thursday, September 20th at
The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts.
