New thrilling house of blues shows!

JOSS STONE
WITH RYAN SHAW AND JAVIER

MONDAY, MAY 21ST
COMMODORE BALLROOM
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS 7:00 pm SHOW 8:00 pm
**GENERAL ADMISSION/EARLY SHOW**

Though only 19, Joss Stone has already had an enviable career. She's sold 7.5
million records, been nominated for Grammy Awards, and appeared onstage with
James Brown, the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Donna Summer.
Her 2003 debut The Soul Sessions and 2004's Mind, Body, Soul established her
as one of the most promising singers of her generation. An interview with
Oprah Winfrey, the cover of Elle and performing at the Superbowl pre-game
show in 2006 capped a spectacular few years. Yet Introducing Joss Stone shows
a whole new dimension to the young soul belter. It's the first record to
reveal Joss's full potential, and the creative artist she is capable of
being. With the aid of neo-soul stalwart Raphael Saadiq (Common, the Roots),
Introducing Joss Stone blends the digital crispness of modern R&B with the
singer's agile, husky tone and her preferred flavours of retro-swooping
Motown-style strings, girl-group background vocals, gutbucket soul guitar.
Songs like the summery "Girl They Won't Believe It" and the first single
"Tell Me 'Bout It" hover magnificently between eras on an album where the
sonic textures are compelling, the melodies stick, and the grooves are
irresistible.

With appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Today Show, and
The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Joss is getting the word out about
the album, and the accompanying tour that's sure to be one of the hottest
tickets of the year.

21st at the famous Commodore Ballroom

THE PLAZA CLUB
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS 8:00 pm SHOW 9:00 pm
**GENERAL ADMISSION**

Joseph Arthur has made his reputation as a first-class singer/songwriter and
a unique performer, one who, through experimenting with tape loops and
distortion, is a veritable one-man band. Discovered by Peter Gabriel, who
released Joseph's 1997 debut Big City Secrets on his Real World label, the
Ohio-raised, NYC-based artist has released several critically acclaimed
albums, including Come to Where I'm From, Redemption's Son, and Our Shadows
Will Remain. The records combine Joseph's classic songwriting skills with
ambitious, ear-catching production. He has toured with Ben Harper, Gomez, and
Tracy Chapman. Michael Stipe (REM) and Chris Martin (Coldplay) recorded his
song "In the Sun" for the Hurricane Katrina Relief program. Joseph Arthur's
music has appeared on TV series The O.C., Dawson's Creek, Scrubs, and The L
Word, and in movies such as The Bourne Identity and Shrek 2.

In the fall of last year, Joseph released Nuclear Daydream, one of his most
praised releases yet ("A mature effort that shines with nakedness and
clarity," said Billboard). To coincide with his brand new release, Let's Just
Be, Joseph is embarking on a six-week tour.

THE CLIKS
with special guesTS THE SMEARS and FLOODLIGHT
MONDAY, APRIL 16TH
THE MEDIA CLUB
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS 8:00 pm SHOW 8:30 pm
**GENERAL ADMISSION**

After playing a series of showcase dates during Canadian Music Week and South
By Southwest, The Cliks' buzz-band status was cemented. Media from across
North America were quick to weigh in with praise for the Toronto-based band's
dynamic, exciting live performances. Of the group¹s performance at the Rivoli
in Toronto during CMW, Chart magazine wrote, "The Cliks are for real. Don't
expect cheesy, drippy bubblegum pop-rock from this good-looking and styling
group. From the first note, chord and beat, they hammer their balls-to-wall
rock." Following their SXSW showcase, the Boston Globe wrote "The Cliks...
rocked with primal, stylish ferocity reminiscent of the early Pretenders."

Like The Cliks' live shows, the band's new album Snakehouse (Silver
Label/Tommy Boy in the U.S., Kindling Music/Warner Music in Canada) is primal
rock 'n' roll full of unguarded emotionality and gutsy sexuality. "Oh Yeah",
"Complicated", "Leading Me On", and the trio's transformation of Justin
Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" into a seething rock anthem driven by a
hopped-up reggae groove are proven crowd favourites and irrepressibly catchy
tunes. This spring, The Cliks launch a headlining tour of North America
before taking part in the first annual True Colors Tour with Cyndi Lauper,
Erasure and Debbie Harry, and hosted by comedian Margaret Cho.

A hard-rocking four-piece from Vancouver, The Smears are fronted by a
world-class belter in lead singer Rene Botha. It's Rene's voice, along with
the band's stinging rock 'n' roll attack on top-notch songs like "Wish You
Would" and "So Scared", that make Asthenic Process one of the brashest rock
'n' roll debuts of the year.

Don't pass up your chance to see The Cliks with special guests The Smears and
Floodlight on April 16th at The Media Club.

**EARLY SHOW/GENERAL ADMISSION**

Mark Robertson, frontman for Montreal collective Bullfrog, is striking out on
his own. Following his well-received EP Deeper Shade of Green he is releasing
his full-length debut this spring. Favorite People was recorded by Mark along
with Bullfrog and Slim Williams, with Kid Koala acting as co-producer. The
album brings to the fore Robertson's new sound, which harkens back to his
singer-songwriter/busking days along with soul, jazz and funk influences.

As frontman for Bullfrog and lead guitarist for Kid Koala, Mark has played
opening slots and headlining shows all over North America and Europe. He has
been called "humourous, amiable and un-demandingly funky" by Wallpaper
magazine and a "masterful" lead guitarist by Jam Base. Rolling Stone says he
"taps into the Prince/Sly/P-Funk zone with ease." To promote the release of
Favorite People, he is taking the Robertson live experience on the road.

DEER LAKE PARK
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS: 5:30 PM SHOW 6:45 PM
**GENERAL ADMISSION**

Volta is Bjork's sixth studio album, and her first since 2004's Medulla.
Entirely written and produced by Bjork, the new disc features ten new tracks
from one of the most dizzyingly experimental and creative artists of the last
two decades. What other musician could, and would, collaborate with a cast as
eclectic as vocalist Antony of Antony and the Johnsons, beatmaker/producer
Timbaland, electronic pioneer Mark Bell, Malian kora player Toumani Diabate,
and Congo experimental band Konono No. 1? As well, a 10-piece female brass
section of Icelandic musicians play on three tracks, and Chinese pip expert
Min Xiao-Fen plays on one.

Known as much for her exciting, boundary-pushing visuals-live and on
video-Bjork is one of the most acclaimed artists of our time. From her
beginnings as a child vocalist to teen years spent fronting a punk band to
her stint as vocalist for Icelandic pop group the Sugarcubes, Bjork has
emerged as one of the most singular talents of this generation. Her
expressive vocal range, her interest in all kinds of music, from pop to
alternative to jazz to ambient electronic, folk, and classical, not to
mention her visual sense, have made her impossible to pigeonhole. She has
been nominated for 12 Grammys and an Academy Award, and has sold over 15
million albums worldwide. With Bjork, every album, every single, every video,
and every performance is an event.

Don't miss Bjork in her first ever solo Vancouver performance on May 23rd, at

SUNDAY, JULY 29TH
DEER LAKE PARK
BURNABY, BC
DOORS: 4:00 PM SHOW 6:00 PM
**GENERAL ADMISSION LAWN SEATING / RAIN OR SHINE**

"Over My Head (Cable Car)" introduced The Fray to millions of listeners
worldwide, but it's the follow-up, "How to Save a Life", that has catapulted
the Denver band into the superstar category.

Thanks to the success of that song, a radio and television staple for the
last several months, the group's 2005 debut How to Save a Life has just gone
double platinum. Last year, the disc swept the digital categories, including
Digital Songs Artist of the Year, Digital Album Artist of the Year, and
Digital Album of the Year, at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards. Since the
release of the album, The Fray has been playing to bigger and bigger crowds,
sometimes opening for Weezer, and selling out shows in clubs, theatres, and
larger venues worldwide. Often compared to Coldplay because of its
piano-based melodies and naked emotionalism, The Fray is one of the breakout
successes of the last few years, and a moving live act.

Don't miss The Fray when they return to Vancouver after a sold-out show at
The Orpheum Theatre with special guests Meese and Single File on July 29th at

After fourteen incredibly successful shows at the Commodore Ballroom, The
White returns to perform Physical Grafitti in its entirety plus all the most

impersonators of them all are The White, led by vocalist Michael White.
Originally from Los Angeles, but now based out of Toronto, they have been
performing their version of Zeppelin-mania since 1979. They were the first
band ever to call themselves a 'tribute', and have performed over 4000 shows

REVEREND HORTON HEAT

WITH SPECIAL GUESTS MURDER BY DEATH

SATURDAY, MAY 5TH
COMMODORE BALLROOM
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS: 8:00 PM SHOW 9:00 PM
**GENERAL ADMISSION**

The Commodore has played host to many a legendary shows in the '90s. But in
the midst of the punk legends, the grunge upstarts and the Britpop shoegazers
who shared its stage, one act reigned supreme: the Reverend Horton Heat.

Performing an idiosyncratic blend of cow-punk, rockabilly, psychobilly, and
good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll, the Reverend built up a following that
remains loyal to this day, while at the same time finding new fans. On albums
like Smoke 'em if You Got 'em, Liquor in the Front, It's Martini Time and
Spend a Night in the Box, the Reverend and his band Jimbo Wallace and Paul
Simmons have concocted some of the wildest sonic cocktails in rock 'n' roll.

Reverend Horton Heat songs have appeared in commercials for Mazda and Levi's
jeans, as a theme for the 2002 Daytona 500, the popular cartoon Johnny Bravo,
and the video games Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and Guitar Hero II. But, by
turning each show into a no-holds-barred rock extravaganza, the stage is
where the Reverend really delivers. You won't find any newfangled electronic
programming or stunt casting on Revival, instead, it's what Reverend Horton
Heat does best, 40 minutes of rockabilly, blues and R&B that's ripe and ready
for concert treatment and more legendary shows.

Don't miss the Reverend Horton Heat live at the Commodore Ballroom on
Saturday, May 5th with special guests Murder By Death.

COMEBACK KID

WITH SPECIAL GUESTS THIS IS HELL, PARKWAY DRIVE and DAGGERMOUTH

THURSDAY, APRIL 19TH
CROATIAN CULTURAL CENTRE
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS: 6:00 PM SHOW 6:30 PM
**ALL-AGES / GENERAL ADMISSION**

Comeback Kid formed with one simple purpose in mind: to get out and play some
fast, furious hardcore. Three critically acclaimed albums later and after
tirelessly touring the world with bands such as Rise Against, Sick Of It All,
Madball, Bad Religion, Dropkick Murphys, Gorilla Biscuits, Terror, and Bane,
Comeback Kid have become one of the biggest names in hardcore today.

Now, two years since the release of their sophomore album Wake the Dead,
Comeback Kid unleashes Broadcasting, their most diverse album yet. Recorded
with pop-punk legend Bill Stevenson at The Blasting Room, the album
encompasses both heavier and more melodic elements. Lead singer Andrew
Neufeld explains, "We wanted to up the ante with this one. Mix it up a
little bit more. I think that with music it's great to explore new things
and push the envelope a bit."

With a great reaction in their hometown of Vancouver right out of the gate,
it became evident that this band had to become a full time project.
Daggermouth started their first tour in July/'05, and within a month of its
completion, hit the studio to record their debut full length CD, Stallone.
With no distribution or label support, the recording was very well received,
moving over 1,000 units in only a few months of release. Recently signed to
Smallman Records, Daggermouth's label debut Turf Wars will be released on

SOTAF is back!

Quick on the heels of a successful CMW show in Toronto at the Revival, Stars of Track and Field are back for more! Just so you Torontonians won't forget who they are - nay, to remind you just how darn spectacular they are! - SOTAF is returning to the city for another show, this time at the El Mocambo. If you couldn't get in or just plain missed it at Canadian Music Week (because, let's face it, it's hard to keep things prioritized at a music festival), make sure you get your butt to the ElMo on March 27th to see the next big thing outta Portland. What musical genius food are they giving people in Portland? Ridiculous.

Also for those in Montreal - they'll be playing the next night (that's March 28...) at The Plaza in Montreal.

AND! Just so us on the left coast aren't left out.... they're coming to Vancouver too! We just have to wait a bit longer for it. May 2, mark your calendars. Sheesh, and Portland really isn't that far away from us here... come on guys!

Calling all RHCP fans!

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS LAUNCH CONTEST ASKING FANS TO CREATE VIDEO FOR
"CHARLIE"

WINNER TO RECEIVE $5,000 AND A TRIP TO MEET THE BAND IN PARIS

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have launched a contest on video-sharing website
YouTube that gives fans the opportunity to create the official video for
"Charlie," a song from its multiple-Grammy winning, double-platinum album
Stadium Arcadium. The winner of the contest will receive $5,000 and a trip
to meet the Red Hot Chili Peppers and see them perform live in Paris, France
on July 6th.

After being inspired by seeing so many creative videos for their songs on
sites like YouTube, Red Hot Chili Peppers are now reaching out to their fans
and budding directors to create a video for "Charlie." The band's lead
singer Anthony Kiedis explains "videos are harder than they look. It's very
very rare and beautiful and monumental when someone makes a truly good
video...this is an opportunity to have that happen for this song."

The winning video will be the "official" video for the song. To enter the
contest, which runs through April 20th, eligible entrants should visit

http://www.youtube.com/group/RHCPcontest or
http://warnerbrosrecords.com/rhcp and
follow the instructions to upload their video entry. The contest is open to
hopefuls from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Canada
and Sweden.

The highly praised Stadium Arcadium took home four 2007 Grammy Awards,
including "Best Rock Album," "Best Rock Song," "Best Rock Performance By A
Duo or Group" and "Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package." After
their headlining U.S. tour with Gnarls Barkley, Red Hot Chili Peppers will
tour Japan and Australia, headline Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
in Indio, CA on April 28th, and return to Europe in June.

Joel Plaskett and Pete Elkas coming to town!

INDIE NIGHT IN CANADA ON 99.3 THE FOX PRESENTS
JOEL PLASKETT EMERGENCY
with special guest pete elkas

FRIDAY, MAY 18TH
COMMODORE BALLROOM
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS 8:00 pm SHOW 9:00 pm

For those of you discovering this artist later in the game... Joel Plaskett
has been playing in bands and making records longer than most of his peers
have been shaving. With over ten years' experience as a professional
musician, Joel has had ample opportunity to hone his chops and tour
extensively in North America, while still being young enough to enjoy the
simple thrill of it.

Plaskett strips down his material to its most sparse and naked, and adds
introspection and intimacy to his expressive yet simple songs. The
low-quality production gives his recordings a rough, rustic feel, which only
adds to its allure. Laced with humor, yearning, regret, apathy, sarcasm, wit,
and love, Plaskett's songs are courageous, confident and poignant.

"He has a wonderfully soulful voice and a great sense of melody that makes me
want to write and sing better and try harder." That's Ron Sexsmith's
endorsement of Peter Elkas in advance of the Toronto musician's sophomore
album, Wall of Fire, produced by Charlie Sexton. Peter describes the record
as "soulful and smooth, but with a rough edge" and says listeners can hear
his love affair with the 1970s sound on the tracks. Now Peter is handing it
over to music lovers. "I want people to feel romantic about it," he says. "It
is a romantic record in the sense of romance between a man and a woman, but
there's also a friendship vibe going on. There's a hopeful tone about it." As
Wall of Fire draws to a close, you can hear that hope.

Don't miss Joel Plaskett Emergency with special guest Pete Elkas live at the
famous Commodore Ballroom on Friday, May 18th.

New from House of Blues

MANDO DIAO
with special guests POP LEVI and THE FILMS

SATURDAY, MAY 5th
THE PLAZA CLUB
881 GRANVILLE STREET
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS 7:00 pm SHOW 7:30 pm
**GENERAL ADMISSION**

In 2002, Mando Diao arrived on the international music scene with hurricane
force. Critics immediately likened the sounds on the band's debut Bring 'Em
In to other garage-y guitar-rock acts like the Strokes and the Libertines.
With the 2004 release of Hurricane Bar, Mando Diao continued refining its
combination of '60s pop songwriting standards mixed with the sounds of today,
not to mention a live show that threw fans into paroxysms of ecstasy. Ode to
Ochrasy, the group's latest, features rave-ups like "TV & Me" and "Long
Before Rock 'n' Roll" as well as adventurous tracks like the
spaghetti-Western-influenced "Good Morning Herr Horst". The group's
incredible feats of touring have inspired huge followings in Germany, Japan,
Sweden, and North America, where the band had headlined and supported bands
such as the Bravery.

Pop Levi isn't your average pop savant. The former Liverpudlian's Ninjatune
debut full-length The Return to Form Black Magick Party shows the L.A.
resident has learned from the masters-T. Rex, Abba, Robert Johnson, Aleister
Crowley. Packed full of hooks and dynamite songwriting, the disc has been
hailed all over the U.K. As well, he's swiftly making inroads in North

**GENERAL ADMISSION/19+**

Not much has been heard or seen from Interpol in recent months. Besides a new
song popping up on a Six Feet Under soundtrack last year, the NYC quartet has
maintained a low profile following extensive tours in support of its 2004
disc Antics. That acclaimed album saw the New York quartet broaden its scope
and its audience, while holding on to the hardcore faithful that had loved
the first record, Turn On the Bright Lights. The acclaimed 2002 Matador
debut, which harkened back to beloved icons like Joy Division while offering
something new and modern, took the indie music scene by storm, while the
group's sartorial style meant Interpol was as likely to appear in hip fashion
mags as in Rolling Stone or Magnet. Finally, with a new album on the horizon,
the band is reappearing for a series of live dates, as coolly elegant and
darkly rocking as ever.

Don't miss Interpol with special guests at the Commodore Ballroom on

Leave it to the cheeky blokes in Arctic Monkeys to call their latest single
"Brianstorm" rather than, say, "Brainstorm". But then, the English quartet
has never done things the normal way. One of the first bands to gain
popularity through the Internet, the Arctic Monkeys had already built up a
strong momentum by the time the band issued its first singles in late
2005/early 2006. Both "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" and "When the
Sun Goes Down" went straight to #1 in the UK singles chart. The group's
heavily-hyped full-length Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history, received
critical acclaim, and won the band numerous awards, including (but not
limited to): the 2006 Mercury Prize; Best New Artist in the U.S. PLUG
Independent Music Awards; Album of the Year awards in Japan and Ireland; and
Best British Band and Best British Album at the 2007 Brit Awards. A
contemporary rock 'n' roll guitar act a la the Libertines, the Futureheads
and Franz Ferdinand, the Monkeys have proven themselves as a winning live
band with sold-out club dates and festival appearances across the U.K.,
marked by singalongs and fan participation, as well as a critically acclaimed
2006 North American tour. A new album, Favourite Worst Nightmare, is
scheduled for an April release.

BRMC!

Oh we're excited about this one... both bands. Do you find yourself bopping around your living room to that iTunes commercial?? That's the Fratellis! They're gonna be here! With BRMC! In a small room!

BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB
with special guests THE FRATELLIS
SATURDAY, MAY 12TH
RICHARD'S ON RICHARDS
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS 7:00 pm SHOW 7:30 pm
**EARLY SHOW**

One of the most acclaimed guitar bands of the last decade, Black Rebel
Motorcycle Club returns with Baby 81. An ambitious, powerful, guitar-driven
rock 'n' roll record, the disc the San Francisco trio back to its origins.
Sonically, it's a far cry from Howl, the 2005 disc that took the band's
trademark heavy, hallucinatory sound down a rootsy, acoustic road.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club began in the mid-'90s. For two albums-their 2001
self-titled debut and 2003's Take Them On, On Your Own-BRMC became known for
its psychedelic fuzz-rock, a mixture of droning vocals, athletic bass lines,
and bluesy guitars. During an August 2004 European festival tour, tensions
and excesses tore the three apart, and drummer Nick Jago walked away. Baby 81
disc reunites the three original members, including guitarists Robert Levon
Been and Peter Hayes, for a driving rock 'n 'roll road trip that maintains
Howl's folky core. A chunky riff launches opener "Took Out a Loan", and a
massive, Led Zeppelin-style beat propels "666 Conducer". "Weapon of Choice"
is an anthemic first single. Most impressively, the album somehow ties in all
3 of their previous efforts, while still managing to take the band forward.
Ultimately, Baby 81 captures Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the most crucial
time of their career.

May 16th - Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver, BC
May 19th - Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary, AB
May 22nd - Conexus Arts Centre - Regina, SK
May 23rd - Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg, MB

Chad VanGaalen rarely leaves his house, but after the 2004 release of
Infiniheart, a group of devoted fans grew across the world for this intimate,
textured album. His new album Skelliconnection (2006 Flemish Eye / Sub Pop) ,
replete with blissful, dreamlike lullabyes, broken dance beats, and barnyard
stomps, has brought him to a new level of attention and accolades - and now
the honour of a Juno nomination for Best Alternative album.

Meanwhile, he continues to stay in the basement, writing songs for his dog,
immune to all the fuss, and occasionally emerging to share his discoveries.
Lucky us.

MONDAY, APRIL 16
THE PLAZA CLUB
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS: 6:30 PM SHOW 7:30 PM
**ALL-AGES / GENERAL ADMISSION**

Formed in 2002, Anberlin released its album Blueprints for the Black Market
to great acclaim. Amassing a following through steady touring with label
mates on Tooth & Nail Records, and with singles "Readyfuels" and "Change the
World", the disc sold 60,000 copies. Never Take Friendship Personal, the
group's second album, was released in 2005 and was praised by critics, and
the disc, along with tours with Fall Out Boy, Yellowcard, Hawthorne Heights,
and My Chemical Romance, won the Florida-raised quintet thousands of new
fans. Anberlin's latest album, the bombastic and breathtaking Cities, is
already being called one of the best rock records of the year.

In August of 2005, The Reason sequestered themselves at a cottage near their
hometown of Hamilton and began writing songs for Things Couldn't Be Better,
the sophomore follow-up to 2004's Ravenna. The demo recorded through this
session attracted the attention of Juno-winning producer Gavin Brown who,
after hearing the new songs and seeing the band perform live, agreed to work
with The Reason as a labour of love. Though the new album is recognizably The
Reason, it is a departure in many ways. Things Couldn't Be Better leaves
behind some of the aggressive tendencies of Ravenna in favour of more melodic
vocals, keyboard undertones and dancier beats.

Don't miss Anberlin with special guests The Reason, Daphne Loves Derby and
Jonezetta for an all ages show at The Plaza Club on April 16th.

DINOSAUR JR.
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS

WEDNESDAY, MAY 23RD

VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS: 9:00 PM SHOW 10:30 PM
**GENERAL ADMISSION**

Once upon a time, giants walked the Earth. And none were more gigantic, for
sheer noise and influence, than Dinosaur Jr. A trio composed of J. Mascis,
Lou Barlow and drummer Murph, the band released records of uncompromising,
ear-bleeding guitar freakouts and lustrous melody before members went their
separate ways. While Mascis continued on with the Dinosaur Jr. name and then,
eventually, formed J. Mascis and the Fog, and Barlow went on to form the
indie-rock stalwarts Sebadoh, the name and dream that was Dinosaur Jr. has
never been forgotten. With the recent rerelease of those monumental first
three albums - Dinosaur, You're Living All Over Me and Bug -by hugely
respected indie label Merge, and with the citing of Dinosaur Jr. by countless
bands as an influence, the original lineup has reformed. The resulting shows
have been received ecstatically by old fans and new, and now a new series of
dates brings the thrilling, titanic majesty of songs like "Little Fury
Things" and "Freak Scene" to the West Coast.

AN EVENING WITH
LISA GERRARD

TUESDAY, MAY 22ND
THE CENTRE IN VANCOUVER FOR PERFORMING ARTS
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS: 7:00 PM SHOW 8:00 PM
**RESERVED SEATING**

Once best known for her haunting work with Dead Can Dance, Lisa Gerrard has
gone on to establish herself as a solo artist supreme with award-winning
movie soundtracks and a series of acclaimed solo and collaborative albums.

Lisa formed Dead Can Dance with fellow Australian Brendan Perry after
launching her career with early 1980s performances at various pubs and clubs
around Melbourne, Australia. Over nine albums between 1984 and 1995, the band
created music that was never easily categorized, drawing on influences as
varied as medieval chants, folk ballads, baroque stylings, Celtic flavours
and electronic synth and sample technology. Despite resisting easy
pigeonholing, or perhaps because of it, the band inspired a large following
all over the world. In 1995 Lisa, accompanied by the Victoria Philharmonic
Orchestra, released her first solo album, The Mirror Pool. Director Michael
Mann was so impressed that he included some of the tracks on the soundtrack
to his movie Heat. Duality, her second album, followed in 1998 and delved
into Middle Eastern and North African percussion and vocal styles. This time,
Mann tapped Lisa and her collaborator Pieter Bourke to write new music for
his film The Insider. Her third album, the moody Immortal Memory, explored
themes of spiritual devotion. She has also scored or contributed to the
soundtracks to the movies Ali, Whale Rider, Mission Impossible 2, Black Hawk
Down, Man on Fire, Layer Cake, and more. She has received Golden Globe
nominations for The Insider and Ali, Grammy and Oscar nominations and a
Golden Globe award for the Gladiator score and four international awards for
Whale Rider. The subject of a recent documentary called Sanctuary: Lisa
Gerrard, she recently released her fourth album, The Silver Tree. A truly
solo work, it's more epic and expansive than anything she's done before.
Truly a unique and powerful talent, Lisa Gerrard is not to be missed.

Don't miss an evening with Lisa Gerrard on Tuesday, May 22nd at the Centre in
Vancouver for Performing Arts.

SOCIAL DISTORTION
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS THE BLACK HALOS AND I HATE KATE

MONDAY, APRIL 16TH
COMMODORE BALLROOM
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS: 8:00 PM SHOW 9:00 PM
**GENERAL ADMISSION**

Of all the bands to emerge from the late '70s punk explosion, none has proven
its durability and ability to reinvent itself as Social Distortion. Begun by
Mike Ness in 1978, the band released its full-length debut in 1983 with
Mommy's Little Monster. The disc brought the group to national attention,
while second album Prison Bound showed more of a country influence as Mike
began incorporating the influences of the Rolling Stones and Johnny Cash into
his work. After signing with Epic, the group's third and self-titled release
in 1990 produced the singles "Ball and Chain" and "Story of My Life",
spreading the Social D legend even further, and inspiring critics to call it
the best rock record of that year. 1992's Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell,
a blend of punk, blues, rockabilly and country, snagged the band airplay with
the single "Bad Luck". In 1996 Social Distortion released White Light, White
Heat, White Trash, a harder rocking affair with the single "I Was Wrong"
receiving widespread airplay.

Social Distortion's most recent disc Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll (2004)
launched the group on an extensive tour. Sold-out shows night after night
proved the band's following is as faithful and passionate as ever, while many
younger groups have acknowledged the influence and inspiration of the
unflagging and undefeatable Social Distortion. A new album is scheduled for
release this year.

Don't miss Social Distortion with special guests The Black Halos and I Hate
Kate at the famous Commodore Ballroom on Monday, April 16th.

HELLOGOODBYE

WITH SPECIAL GUESTS BOYS LIKE GIRLS & THE HUSH SOUND

TUESDAY, APRIL 10TH
CROATIAN CULTURAL CENTRE
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS: 6:00PM SHOW: 7:00PM
**GENERAL ADMISSION**

With unbridled energy and intensity, Hellogoodbye spent the last two years
perfecting their live show and booty-shaking jams, which culminate in the
release of their debut album Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! The Drive
Thru Records disc follows a self-titled EP that spawned the David Hasselhoff
fave and MTV2 choice cut "Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn." Although initially
meant to be free, available at shows and on the band's web site, the EP
scored 750,000 downloads, selling nearly 90,000 copies and eventually winning
MTV2's Dew Circuit Breakout contest. Hellogoodbye spent the next two years
touring with bands like All American Rejects, Motion City Soundtrack and the
Academy Is... before headlining and selling out venues on its own.

Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!, is a collection of tunes that
highlight the gifts of singer/songwriter Forrest
Kline, and work together to create a non-stop, radtastic party mix, with no
two songs alike. From the opening beats of the new New Wave powerhouse "All
Of My Love" to the tender plucking and pining of "Oh, It Is Love"
Hellogoodbye create the perfect soundtrack to any hot and heavy make-out or
even something more personal. As for the live show-well, anything goes with
these guys; one day the band is sharing the stage with Beyoncé-or at least a
cutout of Beyoncé-and the next day, each member is dressed up as a different
piece of fruit.

Warner throws a Finger Eleven party!

As if it wasn't enough passing off a fancy Finger Eleven guitar on here, last night I got last-minute word about a shindig that the very same band was having in Vancouver. I still am a bit baffled as to why they threw a launch party for their new album, Them Vs. You Vs. Me, in Vancouver instead of Toronto or something, but that's a moot point.

Now, having been informed of this thing while I was out for the day, I didn't have time to dash home and get my camera or anything, so you'll have to contend with this one crappy photo off of my terrible cel phone camera. The event was held at uber-swank Warehouse Studios in Gastown, and was attended by a series of CFOX radio and Myspace contest winners, as well as guests (like me!). At 8pm, the doors swung open, and people shuffled in to get crossed off guestlists and festooned with coloured wristbands denoting where they were allowed to go in the building. Cord gets top shelf treatment, so we got to go upstairs and mingle with the bigwigs and get a bird's eye view of the proceedings.

There was also salad.

The band started playing around 9:15, and before that, everyone sort of fluted about upstairs with drinks and idle schmoozy banter, maybe a sidelong glance at a TV showing a MuchMusic Nickelback spotlight and later some thing about the decline of Ms. Britney Spears. I think there might have been some Video On Trial in there somewhere too. I fucking love that show. The boys in Finger Eleven wandered through now and then for chats and chow. Oh, how I've followed this band to varying degrees for years - they look so different now from the way they did about six years ago. Six years! Except guitarist James Black, he hasn't changed a bit. Just outside of our little party room, there was a small balcony thing that was half-blocked by light rigging, and also housed some of the sound and lighting gear. This was prime real estate, as the space allowed for a great view of the carpet-bedecked stage and excited audience. The stage backed onto a wall-sized set of windows, beyond which was a concrete wall after a short distance. The clever effects folks had even lit up this little area with fancy lights, bouncing them off the wall for a colour splash. Very nice.

Dunner from CFox was out host for the evening. This was to be radio broadcast and was also being filmed for TV and future DVD use. Between songs, Dunner would come out and conduct casual interview questions, primarily answered by singer Scott Anderson, but also chimed in on by Black. These little interview periods were pretty funny actually, with great moments coming by way of the band's admission that they aren't smart enough to consciously create a hit, and if so, we'd all be able to smell how fake it is and the band "would have to live with it for the next two years. That's just not worth it." Guitar Hero also played a big role in the proceedings, possibly spurning some inter-band rivalry as Anderson battles with the plastic axe against his own guitar-playing bandmates (and if anyone's ever seen what shenanigans Rick Jackett can pull off with his guitar... well...). The audience claimed a spot here too, with vocal members shouting out things that turned Anderson to giggles. On discussing how long the wait was between this new album and the last one (four years), how the band went through stages where they thought they were ready to make an album and then would write another song that knocked an existing one 'out of contention,' which made them realize, no, the album can be better, one fellow in the crowd yelled out, "It was worth the wait!" The rest of the crowd cheered and Anderson exclaimed that he needs to hire this audience to come along to interviews with him as a throng of yes-men.

We'll see if we can dig up a video or audio file of the night, or at least a transcript.

And of course, the music. They played for a long darn time, much longer than I would have thought for such an event. One of the Warner reps later remarked that "They're just having fun now. They didn't need to play this long." Sweaty and vibrant, even on a relatively small stage and in a very very intimate room, the band charged through hits from the past and hits from the future. Surely, the focussed on new material, opening with the first single off of the new album, "Paralyzer." Strong song, yes it may be sort of Franz Ferdinandy, but since when was that a bad thing? I never thought it was that direct a resemblance actually, but after having two completely unconnected groups of people mention the exact same thing, I guess I have to believe that I'm the only one who hears the distinction. The new material is a bit softer than what we're used to from these guys. Gone is the teen-angsty vicious growling, and in it's place, a kinder, more fun, still loud, but more of a dancey-loud than a moshing-loud kind of vibe. It's an interesting departure. A lot can happen in four years. I wonder if the transition would have seemed more gradual had they managed to put out another album in the middle there somewhere. We also heard some material off of the Tip album, and Greyest Of Blue Skies, as well as, among others, the huge world-dominating hit they had with the ballad "One Thing" off the self-titled release. Really neat night, and a great event in a great location.

The album is officially in stores today, so drop on by your local record shop and snap it up!

Be famous with BRMC... etc.

Oi, Toronto, you lucky ducks!

Check out this, it's your big break!
BRMC will be shooting the video for their new single, "Weapon Of Choice", in Toronto, Canada and want you to be involved!

Filming takes place on Monday, March 12th and if you wish to take part, please e-mail your photo to Angela@revolverfilms.com or call +416 367 9696 as soon as possible.

For the shoot, you will asked to be dressed in black with no logos.

"Weapon Of Choice" is the first single from the bands new album, "Baby 81", due for release in the UK and Europe on April 30th on Island Records and the US and Canada on May 1st on RCA.

What else is new? Well, for you Vancouver kids, if you're not up to anything this Friday, or if you are up to something but need a primer, head up to Red Cat Records on Main street to see some cool photography by, amongst others, the delightful mister Ryan Walter Wagner. I hear there's also some beer and wine involved in this event. Otherwise, go hit up Hoko's in East Van to see uberfun Safety Show! For a simpler night, there's a Bloc Party listening party going on down at Subeez as well. For Saturday shenanigans, if you haven't managed to get into the coveted Sebadoh show, by all means join me and my personal army at the Media Club on Cambie for Sweetheart, the Sessions, Elias and 7 Year Old Poets. Goodtimes rock n roll and some ambience to boot. Sunday you should best be found either for the open mic night at the Cellar, or a songwriters session at the Backstage Lounge. Both will offer copious entertainment and talent, cozy atmosphere, and if you hit up the Backstage, even some brotherly love with our old friend Ryan Hauschild (clearly we know too many Ryan's) and our new friend Dustin Childs. Yeah I know, the name, bla bla. Ask them, not me. Speaking of which, Winston's got a new disc coming out soon, and Cord is damn excited about that if their previous album (and Cazart! cavorts!) are any indication. Want a preview? Of course you do. http://www.myspace.com/winston

More you say? Sure! For all you aspiring artists, check out this FANTASTIC competition. Holy crap, I'm shaking just thinking about it....

DIESEL Sets Out to Find Unsigned and Emerging Bands
In 2007, DIESEL-U-MUSIC Expands To A Global Initiative In Search Of
Unsigned, Unsung, Unseen and Underground Talents.
This year, we¹re jet setting.

THE DIESEL-U-MUSIC AWARDS
Diesel is traversing all boundaries in its search to find the best music the
world has yet to hear. Through its annual Diesel-U-Music initiative, Diesel
has established a formula to source and support Unsigned, Unsung, Unseen,
and Underground music. With the support of an international network of
independent record labels, mangers, agencies, magazines, blogs and
tastemakers, Diesel-U-Music promotes real creativity in today¹s increasingly
manufactured music industry. Diesel-U-Music offers aspiring musicians an
alternative stage where they can be heard and recognized. Since its
inception in The UK eight years ago, Diesel-U-Music has gone global with
initiatives in Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and The United
States. In 2007, all territories will be brought together into one global
effort to take musicians out of their bedrooms and garages, and into the
international spotlight. Artists from all corners of the globe in the
genres of Rock, Hip Hop, and Electronic are encouraged to vie for their
rightful place on the world stage. For the chosen few, Diesel-U-Music will
provide the public platform to garner the international recognition they
deserve.

Past winners/finalists of Diesel-U-Music Awards around the world include The
Killers, Mylo, Busdriver, Outhud, The Bravery, We Are Scientists, Louis XIV,
prefuse 73, Tom Vek, Madlib, Infadels, The Epochs and DJ Yoda.

-- ONLINE ENTRIES --
In 2007, the opportunity for bands to be heard could not be simpler. From
April to May, unsigned bands can upload their music on the official website
(www.diesel-u-music.com). Entries will be checked daily...and initial
responses will be posted immediately on the D-U-M blog. In addition, a
Public Vote will be set up on the site that will allow any music fan the
access to listen to and vote for their favorite nominee from any territory
and genre.

-- JUDGING PANEL ---
Judging duties were carried out by some of the best ears in the industry.
The judging partners, assigned to each territory, will announce a shortlist
of three territory finalists in each genre making a total of nine finalists
in each territory. The panel will then choose one winner from each genre to
bring to the Finals in London.
We¹re firing up the Diesel Jet. It¹s London or bust.

-- The Quan: DIESEL-U-MUSIC Awards Ceremony + Concert. London, England --
Finalists from each territory around the world will be chosen and announced
in June. Come July, Diesel will bring EVERY FINALIST over to London for the
Diesel-U-Music London Event. (eighteen finalists total--1 from each category
in each territory) where they will be able to congratulate each other,
perhaps exchange some pleasantries... The ceremony, sponsored and
supported by NME and CHANNEL 4 (UK), will present all the winning artists
from each territory and genre with their awards. Three of the Eighteen
Finalists will win a full tour support package and the opportunity to
perform at the Awards Ceremony and show their moxie in front of a huge
international and influential audience. Channel 4 will televise the event.
NME will be doing extensive coverage. Diesel will also bring some music
legends to the event and honor them with an Outstanding Contribution To
Music and Lifetime Achievement Awards. Past honorees and presenters at this
event include the likes of Jonny Marr, Mick Rock, and Ian McCullough.
Following the event, Diesel-U-Music finalists are encouraged and supported
by Diesel to use the momentum created by the awards ceremony to do
additional shows in the UK while they¹re there. And once the ceremony is
over and everyone flies home, finalists will continue to receive on-going
support from Diesel-U-Music and its partners.
It¹s all happening.
