The first Finnish band ever to go gold in the U.S., HIM is ready to
launch the follow-up to its hugely successful 2005 album Dark Light.
With less emphasis on keyboards than the previous release, the Swedish
quintet's sixth full-length Venus Doom is the dark, hard-rocking result
of recording during the long, cold Finnish winter. Focusing on heavier,
doomier, and gloomier material, the disc was inspired by Black Sabbath
and Metallica. That rock authenticity and ferocity are evident from the
savage intensity of the title track and in the machine gun-style attack
of "Love in Cold Blood," a song that explodes in a vicious guitar solo.
Contrasting beautiful melodies and hard-hitting guitar on songs like
"Dead Lover's Lane," the disc is HIM's most lucid and focused to date.
And now, after touring this past summer with My Chemical Romance, Taking
Back Sunday, and more on the main stage of Linkin Park's Projekt
Revolution, the band is taking this amazing new material out on the road
for a headlining tour.
