The Cure, one of the most revered British bands of the past quarter-century,
have unveiled their plans for a North American headlining tour this fall
kicking off September 13th in Tampa, Florida. Tickets for their Vancouver
date go on sale Friday, June 6th at 10:00am.
The band gear up for their trip to the North America as they put the final
touches to their 13th studio record and first album of new music since 2004's
self titled release The Cure. The new album, as yet untitled, has been
recorded in the U.K. with Robert Smith producing, and will be released on
Suretone/Geffen Records this fall.
Led as always by lead singer/guitarist Robert Smith, The Cure line-up
comprises longtime members bass player Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper
and, back in the band for a third time, guitarist Porl Thompson.
The Cure first formed in southern England in 1976 as Easy Cure. In 1978 the
'Easy' was dropped, and The Cure was signed to the Fiction label. In May 1979
their debut album Three Imaginary Boys was released to great acclaim.
Other landmark Cure albums include Pornography (1982), The Head on the Door
(1985), Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (1987), Disintegration (1989), Wish (1992),
Wild Mood Swings (1996), the Grammy-nominated Bloodflowers (2000) and their
last full length release, the self-titled set The Cure (2004). This past
year saw the Suretone/Geffen release of Festival 2005, an award winning 5.1
DVD featuring 30 songs, shot by fans, band members and professionals during
the summer of 2005's European festival run.
Don't miss one of England's biggest bands, The Cure, with special guests 65
Days of Static at the Pontiac Theatre at General Motors Place on Wednesday,
October 9th.

Ladies and gentlemen... the Flaming Lips. From the unlikely birthplace of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, comes one of the most psychedelic rock bands to ever
win a Grammy Award. For over 20 years the fabulously weird and eclectic
Flaming Lips, led by impresario/vocalist/madman Wayne Coyne, have been
blowing away audiences and audio-heads alike with tripped-out sounds,
impressionistic lyrics and bubblegum pop melodies.
Early albums like Oh My Gawd... It's the Flaming Lips, Telepathic Surgery and
Transmissions from the Satellite Heart gave the band a toehold in the
burgeoning indie-rock scene of the late '80s and early '90s. As mainstream
media embraced alternative rock sounds, the Lips benefited-both Beverley
Hills 90210 and Beavis and Butthead featured the group's 1993 song "She Don't
Use Jelly". Always theatrical, with its newfound popularity the group found
itself with enough resources to start putting on the shows the members had
always dreamed about. Subsequent tours saw the outfit utilizing every-thing
from Christmas lights to headphones for audience members to animal costumes.
Despite the rapid growth of their audience, the Lips never wavered from their
commitment to making the most outlandish yet tuneful music possible,
something that has continued on albums like The Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi
Battles the Pink Robots and its most recent, At War with the Mystics. Now the
group is heading back out on tour, this time for the release of its first
ever live DVD, the spectacular concert film U.F.O.'s At the Zoo: The
Legendary Concert in Oklahoma City.
The legendary Flaming Lips and special guests Black Moth Super Rainbow play
Vancouver on Tuesday, September 18th at The Orpheum Theatre.

Hospital Music is Matt Good's first record of new material since 2004's White
Light Rock and Roll Review, and is preceded by the awesomely catchy single
"Born Losers". Besides 13 new tunes, the record finds the Vancouver-based
singer-songwriter tackling two very disparate covers-the Dead Kennedys'
politically charged punk rock anthem "Moon Over Marin" and Daniel Johnston's
tender, optimistic rumination "True Love Will Find You in the End."
Matt Good's third solo album (Avalanche, in 2002, was his first) comes after
his hugely successful term fronting the Matthew Good Band, one of Canada's
most successful alternative rock acts. The group's hard-edged, passionate
sound on Last of the Ghetto Astronauts, Underdogs and Beautiful Midnight
(which took home two Juno Awards) and The Audio of Being won the adoration of
college-age music fans and music industry vets across the country. Some of
the MGB's best-known songs include "Everything is Automatic", "Apparitions",
and "Hello Time Bomb." Never afraid to speak his mind, Matt remains a
politically outspoken artist.
Don't miss Matt Good play an acoustic solo set on Thursday, September 20th at
The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts.
