DETAILS: Hosted by Bill Richardson (CBC), this event will feature nine of
Vancouver's prominent music groups, and will range from Gospel to Electronic
sounds. This event was conceptualized by Robyn Driedger-Klassen and Rosemary
Siemens, two classically trained, accomplished musicians in opera and violin
who have performed as soloists from Seattle Opera to Carnegie Hall. They
wanted to create opportunities for new, live and impressive music, performed
by Vancouverites for Vancouverites.
They began talking to their musically-inclined colleagues and heard the same
story from everyone: we all need more events where we can showcase our
music! Thus, Music Wave Vancouver was conceived: a one-night event on May
31st at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. Their mission is to unite
musicians of all styles in the greater Vancouver area and to create an
atmosphere that connects and supports the artist, celebrating the uniqueness
of each person¹s creativity.
They hope to inspire each other as they expand their musical horizons and to
gain a wider listening audience for each ensemble. "We want to make
Vancouver aware of the great musical talent within our city. Music Wave
will give classical musicians a chance to be heard outside of stuffy concert
halls, and for rock bands to be heard outside of the noisy club scene".
As audience focus ranges from high school students to seniors, this event
guarantees that there will be something here for everyone. Even though the
nine ensembles are wildly different (and not mainstream), the audience will
be delighted to see the thread that weaves each group together to form an
incredible tapestry seen through the course of the concert. All of this
will be led by the scintillating conversation of CBC¹s Bill Richardson.
For now, Music Wave is only one evening, but their vision is to see it
change from a one-night event to a week-long summer festival and perhaps
even to help launch the 2010 Olympics. Our city has more to offer than
just beautiful vistas. We are made up of creative, fascinating people from
every walk of life. Please come celebrate this on May 31st!
Join us on May 31st at 7:30 at the VECC for a musical night you won¹t
forget.
