This is quite an oddball album - I'm only a couple songs in so I'm still trying to determine if that's a good thing or a bad thing. At this point, I will say it's good for interests' sake, but it makes the album a bit challenging to listen to . This is mostly because the beats, the sounds, the way the songs progress are jarring and chunky, rather than fluid or intuitive. So that jaggedness makes it a curious and intriguing listen, but it's also neither easy to dance to, nor relaxing to listen to. I'm just not sure what to do with this. Infused with 80's-style synth noises, simmering vocals, lots of effects and skewing on things to make them... well I'll say it's like an audio parallelogram. Everything has this weird shift to it. It's kinda cool, but yeah, in a challenging way. It's ethereal. "The Night Sun Over San Juan" reminds me a lot of Creeper Lagoon. "O.I.C.U.R." has some haunting properties - bizarre echoey I Mother Earth-like vocals with a dark piano that sneaks in. Gorgeous melody.
Song of choice :
"Knocked On The Fortune Teller's Door" turns my crank the most.
