Kelly Snyder looks like Sarah Brightman. Kelly Snyder does not sound like Sarah Brightman. More like Amanda Marshall, in fact. You've got the piano girls (Michelle Branch, Chantal Kreviazuk, Vanessa Carlton etc) and the guitar girls (Maren Ord, Jewel, etc). Snyder is a piano girl. Twinkly, pleasant-voiced, very fluid and pretty and soft as a good girl should be. "Rescue Me" really begins to show her vocal and piano talent, the latter through snappy scales and heavier piano bits. There are layers of vocals and a huge range of musicians playing strings and whatnot. Uh oh, when people with this style of music try to pick up the tempo, they often end up sounding forced, like American Idol contestants trying to sing rock songs. Vocals are still good, but "Innocent" sounds awkward. This is made up for with the gorgeous a capella beginning to "Are You Missing Me?" Polish off with a bit of Tori Amos and sad lyrics out towards "So Bad" and we're looking at a pretty decent gal here.
Song of choice :
"I Didn't Know" takes top honours.
