I reiterate, generally full albums with no vocals don't grab me. These are great
songs, and I really want to hear some soaring, hip voice chattering away throughout,
but that's just not happening. The violiny flow of "Strait Is The Gate" sets me
bopping. Really nice stuff, but I'm not sure what the application would be.
Vocal-free stuff doesn't do so well on the radio, and it doesn't have the aura of
film-soundtrack type stuff. So I wonder. I wonder I wonder. Actually, this is pretty
good music for wondering. Like sunsets and traffic and mindless wandering. Oh my,
words on "Hearts And Harps"! This is appropriate lady vocals for the album. Somewhat
what would be expected. Julie Andrews could sing this from atop a mountain. "Warning
Against Judging a Christian Brother" has the orchestral feel of what I think would
be a live theme at an awards show like the Grammys. You know, the sort of thing they
play when someone is walking to the stage. I think that's what I'm thinking of. And
the trumpets also ring reminiscent of the Dandy Warhols. It's rich music, and not
unexpectedly, considering the talented hands that lent their time to the project.
Soundtracks for meadows, loneliness and contemplation. I love the power and the
vocals that begin to melt out of "Man Who Almost Was." The charming "La Fin DU
Monde" dropped right out of a Christmas carol. It feels like falling snowflakes.
Beautiful, joyous.
Song of choice :
Love that "Man Who Almost Was."
