Sure, I dig it, this is fun. It's a bit dull (I mean, the sound quality, not the
actual music), which I will take as a deliberate attempt to sound analog/old-school.
For some reason I have a bit of a problem with bands that do that if they have a
musical sound that is decidedly modern. If it's modern music, it should be slick. If
it's oldschool tunes, then go analog all you want. I guess some of the songs sound
like vintage punk, but there's a little too much melody and prettiness for that to
pull off properly. Girls lightly intersperse music that I feel wants to be more
vicious than it is. As the disc goes on, I find I am more and more fond of the
lightly quirky sounds - definitely a 'hip' album without being so annoyingly
derivative like a lot of the same ilk. A lot of said ilk are still pretty fun but
it's getting hard to tell some of these bands apart sometimes.
Song of choice :
"The Butler Routine" is a unique one - very cute and stand-out, suiting the analog
quality much better. "Perils of Snap Decisions" is also pretty cool sounding.
